The 3M IT0.400BK48IN-L is a heavy-wall, cross-linked polyolefin heat shrink cable sleeve rated for 600 volts and designed for protection and insulation of electrical cables in demanding environments. At 48 inches in length with a minimum expanded diameter of 0.4 inches and a maximum recovered diameter of 0.15 inches, this sleeve delivers a 3:1 shrink ratio that creates a tight, durable bond over a range of cable sizes from 12 to 6 AWG. The heavy wall construction provides mechanical resistance against puncture and abrasion. A licensed electrician or cable splicing technician typically installs this sleeve as part of splice insulation, sheath repair, or service relocation work.
This sleeve is rated for indoor, outdoor, and overhead use, making it suitable for utility and commercial electrical applications. Intended uses include insulating secondary splices, dig-in repairs, sheath repairs, and relocation of service conductors. The wide shrink range allows a single size to cover multiple cable diameters within the 12 to 6 AWG range. UV resistance and weather-resistant construction make it appropriate for exposed outdoor installations. The sleeve is compliant with RoHS requirements and carries UL 486-D and CSA approvals.
Designed for use with cables sized 12 to 6 AWG with outer diameters between 0.17 and 0.35 inches. Suitable for 600-volt secondary splice, sheath repair, and service relocation applications in both indoor and outdoor electrical installations.
Installation should be performed by a qualified electrician following applicable NEC requirements and local codes. De-energize and lock out the circuit before applying the sleeve. Use a calibrated heat gun to apply uniform heat and achieve full shrink recovery — avoid open flame tools that can scorch or unevenly shrink the material. Ensure the cable surface is clean and dry before installation to promote proper bonding.
