The 3M COMPANY FB 136 is a single-component, non-combustible fire block sealant formulated to resist the passage of smoke and heat through unsealed voids in non-rated construction assemblies. Supplied in a 10.1 oz cartridge, it applies like conventional caulk and can be dispensed with a standard caulking gun, pneumatic pumping equipment, a putty knife, or a trowel. The gray-colored sealant adheres to virtually any substrate, including wood, masonry, metal, and plastic. It is typically installed by licensed contractors, firestop specialty installers, and general construction tradespeople working on interior framing and rough-in phases.
FB 136 is suited for sealing interior construction voids in non-rated wall and floor assemblies to maintain the integrity of a fire block barrier. Common applications include penetrations around pipe, conduit, cable, and framing members in residential and light commercial construction. Because it applies with standard caulking tools, it is well suited for high-volume rough-in work where speed and broad substrate compatibility are priorities.
Designed for use in non-rated interior construction assemblies where firestopping of voids is required. Adheres to a broad range of common building materials including wood, masonry, metal, and plastic.
Installation should be performed in accordance with applicable building codes and the authority having jurisdiction. Surfaces should be clean, dry, and free of dust or loose debris before applying the sealant. Apply using a standard caulking gun or pneumatic equipment, tool the bead with a putty knife or trowel as needed, and allow adequate cure time before concealing the assembly. Do not use this product as a substitute for firestop systems required in rated wall or floor assemblies.
