The 3M 875501 is a shank-mounted flap wheel designed for surface blending, deburring, and finishing on metal and other hard materials. It uses non-woven aluminum oxide abrasive construction at 60 grit, placing it in the medium grade range suited for moderate stock removal and surface conditioning. The 1/4 inch shank mounts directly in a die grinder or drill press, making it a practical tool for machinists, fabricators, and maintenance technicians working in tight or contoured areas. The wheel runs at a maximum of 12,000 RPM, which is compatible with most standard pneumatic and electric die grinders.
This mounted flap wheel is used in metal fabrication shops, maintenance and repair operations, and light manufacturing environments. It performs well on inside diameters, curved surfaces, and profiles where flat abrasives cannot reach. The non-woven construction conforms to irregular surfaces and delivers a consistent finish without aggressive gouging. It is sold in packages of 5, making it appropriate for job kits or bench stock replenishment. Typical users include welders, pipefitters, and general metal fabricators performing weld blending or surface prep work.
Designed for use with die grinders and drill presses fitted with a 1/4 inch collet or chuck. Suitable for metal, composite, and similar hard material applications requiring non-woven abrasive surface finishing.
Installation is performed by inserting the 1/4 inch shank into the collet of a die grinder or drill press and tightening securely before operation. Verify that the tool spindle speed does not exceed the 12,000 RPM maximum rating marked on the wheel. Always wear appropriate eye protection and secure the workpiece before grinding. Inspect the wheel for damage or wear before each use and replace if the abrasive material shows signs of deterioration.
