The 3M 7100405671 is a closed-coat aluminum oxide cloth-backed abrasive belt designed for general-purpose metalworking and light woodworking applications. Measuring 2 inches wide by 72 inches long, it runs on standard belt grinders and finishing machines used in fabrication and shop environments. The XF-weight polyester cloth backing provides flexibility through a single-flex construction, allowing the belt to conform to contoured and flat workpiece surfaces. At 220+ grit, this belt is suited for fine finishing, light deburring, and surface blending passes. The Film-lok splice keeps the joint low-profile and durable under continuous operation. Metalworking professionals, fabricators, and finishing technicians are the primary users of this belt.
This belt is optimized for use on mild steel and carbon steel, and performs effectively on softer metals including aluminum, bronze, and brass. It can be used wet or dry, making it adaptable to both dry grinding setups and coolant-assisted operations. Woodworking applications are also within scope for general finishing work. The closed-coat construction maximizes abrasive surface contact per pass, which improves cut efficiency on metal surfaces and reduces the number of passes needed to achieve a consistent finish.

Install abrasive belts only on machines rated for the belt dimensions and operating speed. Power down and de-energize the belt grinder before changing belts. Inspect the Film-lok splice for integrity before each use and remove the belt from service if the splice shows signs of lifting or separation.
