The 3M 7100208163 is a ceramic abrasive fiber disc designed for aggressive material removal on metal, weld seams, and hard surfaces. Part of the 3M 982C Series, it features a resinoid bond and a fiber backing that holds up under the heat and pressure generated during grinding operations. At 36 grit, this disc falls in the very coarse grade range, making it well-suited for rapid stock removal, weld blending, and surface preparation before finishing passes. The disc attaches via an arbor hole and is rated to a maximum of 15,000 RPM, keeping it compatible with standard angle grinders used in fabrication and field work.
This disc is used in metalworking, fabrication shops, and industrial maintenance settings where fast, aggressive grinding is required. It is appropriate for use on ferrous metals, structural steel, and similar hard substrates. The 4-inch diameter fits compact angle grinders commonly used in tight spaces or detail work. Licensed tradespeople and professional fabricators working on structural steel, pipe, or sheet metal will find this disc appropriate for heavy prep work prior to welding or coating application.
Designed for use with angle grinders accepting 4-inch arbor-hole fiber discs rated at or below 15,000 RPM. Verify that the grinder guard and backing pad are rated for fiber disc use before operation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified operator familiar with abrasive disc safety practices. Always power down and unplug or de-energize the grinder before mounting or removing a disc. Inspect the disc for cracks or damage before each use and never operate above the rated maximum RPM. Appropriate PPE including eye protection, a face shield, and gloves should be worn during operation per ANSI B11 and OSHA abrasive wheel standards.
