The 3M 7100199498 is a Trizact 217EA abrasive belt designed for intermediate finishing and fine polishing applications on metal surfaces. It uses 3M proprietary microreplication technology in which micron-graded aluminum oxide abrasive particles are formed into uniform pyramidal structures and bonded to a JE-weight rayon backing. As the pyramids wear during use, fresh sharp mineral is continuously exposed, delivering a consistent cut rate and a predictable, fine surface finish from start to end of belt life. The belt measures 48 inches in length and 8 inches in width. It is well suited for use in robotic grinding and finishing cells where process consistency is critical.
This belt is intended for light to intermediate pressure finishing operations on metal workpieces prior to plating, buffing, or final surface treatment. The flexible JE-weight rayon backing conforms to contoured and complex surface geometries, maintaining uniform contact across the abrasive face. A built-in grinding aid helps manage heat generation during extended runs, reducing the risk of heat-related workpiece warping or discoloration. Typical applications include fabrication shops, aerospace component finishing, and automated polishing lines where repeatable surface finish results are required.
Designed for use on belt finishing machines and robotic grinding cells accepting belts measuring 48 inches in length and 8 inches in width. Intended for metal finishing operations prior to plating or buffing.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machine operator or industrial maintenance technician following the equipment manufacturer's belt-change procedures. Power down and de-energize the belt finishing machine completely before removing the spent belt or installing a new one. Confirm belt tracking alignment after installation and run the machine briefly at low speed before returning to full production. Verify that belt direction-of-travel arrows, if present, match the machine drive direction.
