The 3M 7100179740 is a Trizact 217EA coated abrasive belt designed for intermediate finishing and fine polishing on metal surfaces prior to plating or buffing operations. It uses 3M microreplication technology in which micron-graded aluminum oxide particles are formed into uniform pyramidal structures bonded to a JE-weight rayon cloth backing. As the pyramids wear during use, fresh sharp mineral is continuously exposed, maintaining a consistent cut rate and a predictable fine finish throughout the full life of the belt. The belt measures 36 inches in length and 4 inches in width and is suited for use on stationary belt sanders and automated finishing equipment.
This belt is intended for light-pressure metal finishing applications including pre-plate and pre-buff work on ferrous and non-ferrous substrates. The flexible JE-weight cloth backing conforms to contoured and irregular surfaces, making it appropriate for both flat stock and curved workpieces. Its consistent cut behavior and long abrasive life make it a reliable choice for robotic and automated finishing lines where repeatable surface finish is required. Grinding aid is incorporated to reduce heat buildup and help prevent heat-related warping or discoloration of the workpiece.
Designed for use on stationary belt grinders and automated finishing equipment accepting 36-inch by 4-inch abrasive belts; suitable for finishing ferrous and non-ferrous metal substrates under light contact pressure.
Belt installation should be performed by a qualified operator following the equipment manufacturer's belt-tracking and tensioning procedures. Ensure the machine is fully de-energized and the belt has come to a complete stop before changing belts. Verify belt arrow direction markings align with the direction of travel on the machine. Wear appropriate PPE including eye protection and gloves during belt changes and operation.
