The 3M 7100178295 is a Cubitron II 987C coated fiber disc engineered for medium to heavy-duty metal grinding, weld grinding, and beveling applications. At 7 inches in diameter with a 60-grit abrasive rating and a maximum operating speed of 8600 RPM, this disc uses 3M Precision-Shaped Grain technology to maintain consistently sharp cutting points throughout the life of the disc. The result is a faster cut rate, lower grinding pressure, and significantly longer disc life compared to conventional aluminum oxide fiber discs. A stiff fiber backing and strong resin bond add tear resistance under high-pressure conditions.
This disc is suited for fabrication shops, structural steel work, and robotic or pressure-assisted grinding systems where throughput and disc longevity directly affect labor costs. Typical applications include weld seam removal, surface conditioning, and edge beveling on ferrous and heat-sensitive alloys. The integrated grinding aid helps manage heat buildup, making it appropriate for stainless steel and other alloys where discoloration or heat distortion is a concern. Licensed trades and production grinders working with angle grinders and backup pads are the primary installers and users.
Designed for use with 7-inch angle grinders and compatible backup pads in medium to heavy-duty grinding, weld removal, and beveling operations on ferrous metals and heat-sensitive alloys.
Fiber discs must be mounted on a rigid or semi-rigid backup pad matched to the disc diameter before use on an angle grinder. Verify the grinder free-speed does not exceed the disc maximum RPM rating before mounting. Inspect the disc for cracks, tears, or damage before each use and discard any compromised disc immediately. Follow ANSI B7.1 and tool manufacturer guidelines for abrasive disc mounting and guarding requirements.
