The 3M 7100178255 is a 787C Quick Change Fibre Disc engineered for high-speed stock removal on hard-to-grind metals. It is built with 3M Precision Shaped Grain, a structured abrasive mineral that delivers faster cut rates and cooler grinding temperatures compared to conventional fibre discs. At 4.5 inches in diameter and 60 grit, this disc is designed for weld removal, blending, beveling, and finish refinement. A grinding aid is incorporated into the construction to minimize heat buildup, making it well-suited for heat-sensitive alloys. Licensed tradespeople and fabricators working in industrial and metal fabrication environments rely on this disc for consistent, durable performance across demanding applications.
This disc is intended for use on stainless steel and high nickel alloys in both shop and field metal fabrication settings. Typical applications include weld grinding, edge chamfering, beveling, and surface blending where heat control and cut rate are critical. The stiff fibre backing and strong resin bond provide tear resistance under heavy load. The quick-change design reduces disc swap time during production work. It is compatible with 3M disc pad face plates and hubs, which are sold separately.
Compatible with 3M disc pad face plates and hubs sold separately. Designed for use on stainless steel and high nickel alloys in metal fabrication and welding applications.
Installation and disc changes should be performed by qualified personnel following the angle grinder or disc grinder manufacturer guidelines. Ensure the grinder is powered off and disconnected from the power source before mounting or removing the disc. Verify that the grinder RPM rating meets or exceeds the disc RPM rating before operation. Always use appropriate personal protective equipment including face shield, gloves, and hearing protection when operating abrasive discs.
