The 3M 7100178123 is a coated abrasive flap disc in the 769F series, built for aggressive material removal on carbon steel, stainless steel, and other heat-sensitive alloys. It uses 3M Precision-Shaped Grain, a structured abrasive that cuts faster and lasts longer than conventional aluminum oxide or alumina zirconia grain. The 5-inch diameter disc mounts on a 7/8-inch arbor and is configured in a Type 29 conical profile, which concentrates cutting force at the work surface for weld grinding, beveling, and surface preparation. The 80-grit designation makes it suitable for stock removal and blending in metal fabrication environments.
This disc is designed for use with angle grinders and right-angle grinders fitted with a 7/8-inch arbor. Typical applications include weld seam grinding, edge beveling, rust and scale removal, and general surface prep on ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The Type 29 conical geometry provides an aggressive cutting angle ideal for flat and contoured work. It is suited for metal fabrication shops, structural steel work, and maintenance welding operations where consistent cut rate throughout disc life is critical to productivity.
Designed for use on angle grinders accepting a 5-inch, 7/8-inch arbor flap disc. Suitable for carbon steel, stainless steel, and other heat-sensitive metal alloys across weld grinding, beveling, and surface preparation applications.
Installation and disc changes must be performed by a qualified operator with the grinder fully powered down and unplugged or lock-out/tag-out applied. Verify the grinder spindle speed rating meets or exceeds the maximum RPM rating of the disc before mounting. Inspect the disc for cracks or damage before each use and do not use a damaged disc. Follow ANSI B7.1 and applicable workplace safety standards for abrasive wheel use.
