The 3M 7100177920 is a coated abrasive fibre disc engineered for medium and high-pressure grinding applications on carbon steel. It uses 3M Precision-Shaped Grain, a triangular ceramic mineral that maintains sharp cutting points throughout the life of the disc. This geometry delivers up to twice the cut rate and service life compared to conventional ceramic abrasive fibre discs, while requiring less grinding pressure from the operator. A stiff fibre backing and a strong resin bond give the disc the structural rigidity needed for demanding weld grinding and beveling work. Licensed trades and industrial grinding operators are the primary installers and users of this consumable.
This disc is suited for carbon steel grinding tasks in fabrication, manufacturing, and maintenance environments. Typical applications include weld seam removal, surface blending, and bevel prep on structural steel, pipe, and plate. The 9.125-inch diameter and 36-grit designation make it a practical choice for aggressive stock removal where both speed and disc longevity are priorities. It is compatible with manual angle grinders, pressure-assisted grinders, and robotic grinding systems rated for operation at or below 6600 RPM.
Designed for use on carbon steel in manual angle grinder, robotic grinding, and pressure-assisted grinding applications requiring a 9.125-inch fibre disc at a maximum operating speed of 6600 RPM.
Fibre discs must be mounted on a rigid backing pad sized to match the disc diameter before use. Verify that the grinder spindle speed does not exceed the 6600 RPM rating marked on the disc before starting the tool. Inspect the disc for damage before each use and replace immediately if cracks, tears, or delamination are observed. Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment including a face shield, gloves, and hearing protection when operating angle grinders.
