The 3M 7100177012 is a brown, insulation displacement contact (IDC) quick splice tap connector designed for fast, tool-free branch connections in low-voltage wiring applications. It accepts a run wire from 12 AWG solid or stranded up to 10 AWG stranded, with three wire entries that allow a tap connection to be made without cutting the run wire. Electricians and HVAC technicians use these connectors to add branch circuits or signal taps quickly during installation or service work. Each pack contains 50 connectors. Combined weight of the pack is approximately 0.38 pounds.
This connector is suited for residential and light commercial wiring scenarios where a branch tap must be made on an existing run wire. Common applications include thermostat wiring extensions, low-voltage control circuits, lighting branch taps, and similar signal or power distribution tasks. The IDC termination method pierces the wire insulation on installation, eliminating the need to strip conductors. The brown color coding helps identify the connector by wire gauge range on the job.
Rated for use with 12 AWG solid or stranded wire and 10 AWG stranded wire per IDC 902 standards. Designed as an OEM-style tap splice connector for low-voltage and branch-circuit wiring applications where IDC termination is appropriate.
Installation is typically performed by a licensed electrician or qualified HVAC technician in accordance with NEC requirements for the circuit type. De-energize the circuit completely before making any splice or tap connection. Insert the run wire and tap wire into the designated wire entries and close the connector body fully to engage the IDC contacts. Do not use these connectors on circuits or wire gauges outside the rated range listed on the connector.
