The 3M 7100169954 is a Scotch-Brite Surface Conditioning Belt designed for demanding metalworking applications on machine and handheld belt sanders. Built on a reinforced scrim backing with a nonwoven open-web construction and aluminum oxide (AO) mineral bonded in resin, this belt measures 115 inches long by 2 inches wide. It delivers consistent surface conditioning results across a range of detail tasks including blending, deburring, fine finishing, and setting the grain. The open-web structure limits heat build-up and reduces loading, extending belt life and keeping finishes uniform throughout the run.
This belt is suited for use in fabrication shops, maintenance environments, and automated robotic processing lines where consistent metal finishing is required. Typical applications include blending corners, cleaning welds, deburring edges, contour finishing, flat finishing, and producing straightline-brushed or stainless steel finishes on a variety of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Its conformability keeps the abrasive surface in contact with complex-shaped parts, making it practical for both hand-operated and mechanized setups.
Designed as a replacement-style surface conditioning belt for 2 inch by 115 inch belt sanders used in metal fabrication, finishing, and maintenance applications.
Installation is performed by qualified machine operators or metalworking technicians. Always power down and de-energize the belt sander before changing belts, and verify the tool is rated for the belt dimensions before mounting. Confirm belt tracking and tension per the machine manufacturer's guidelines before resuming operation. Inspect the belt for tears or damage before each use and do not exceed the machine's rated operating speed.
