The 3M 7100169917 is a Scotch-Brite surface conditioning belt designed for detail abrasive work across a range of metalworking applications. Built on a reinforced nonwoven open-web construction with aluminum oxide (AO) mineral bonded with resin and backed by scrim, this belt delivers consistent surface conditioning results without the heat buildup and loading that plague conventional abrasive belts. It is installed and operated by metalworking technicians, fabricators, and finishing professionals working with automated, robotic, or handheld belt finishing equipment.
This belt is suited for blending, deburring, contour finishing, flat finishing, and attaining straightline-brushed finishes on stainless steel, mild steel, aluminum, and other metals. Its conformable construction allows the abrasive web to maintain full contact with complex-shaped workpieces, making it effective in both robotic processing environments and manual finishing operations. Common tasks include blending weld lines, cleaning oxidized surfaces, removing grind lines and mill marks, setting grain patterns, and finishing edges in fabrication shops and manufacturing facilities.
Designed for use on belt finishing machines and robotic systems that accept 18-inch by 3/8-inch abrasive belts. Suitable for surface conditioning work on stainless steel, carbon steel, aluminum, and other metals.
Install on belt finishing equipment rated for the appropriate belt speed before powering the machine. Ensure the machine is fully de-energized and locked out before changing belts. Inspect the belt for tears or damage before use and confirm the belt tracking is correct before beginning a run. Follow the equipment manufacturer's guidelines for belt tensioning and contact wheel selection.
