The 3M 7100166939 is an insulation displacement connector (IDC) designed to electrically connect a tap wire end to a through run wire and insulate the connection in a single operation. It accepts 18 to 16 AWG solid or stranded wire and 14 AWG stranded wire. The connector body is light blue and is rated for a maximum operating temperature of 221 degrees F (105 degrees C). The housing is flame retardant and accommodates conductors with a maximum insulation outer diameter of 0.145 inches. Licensed electricians and low-voltage technicians install these connectors in branch circuit tapping and parallel splicing applications where reliable insulated connections are required without stripping wire ends.
This connector is suited for tap and parallel splicing tasks in residential and commercial electrical work. It is used where a branch conductor must be connected to a continuous run wire, such as in junction boxes, panel wiring, and fixture installations. The suggested application tool is the E-9BM Crimping Tool. Connectors are packaged 100 per box and 1,000 per case, making them practical for ongoing service work or larger wiring projects.
Designed for use with the 3M E-9BM Crimping Tool. Suitable for tap and parallel splicing of 18 to 16 AWG solid or stranded wire and 14 AWG stranded wire in standard electrical wiring applications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC). De-energize and lock out the circuit before making any connections. Use the recommended E-9BM Crimping Tool to seat the connector fully and ensure a reliable insulation displacement contact. Do not exceed the specified wire gauge or insulation diameter ratings.
