The 3M 7100166938 is an insulation displacement connector (IDC) designed for double run or tap wire splicing in low-voltage electrical applications. Sold in a box of 100, this connector accepts 18 to 16 AWG solid or stranded wire and 14 AWG stranded wire, with a maximum insulation outer diameter of 0.145 inches. The blue housing is made from flame-retardant material and is rated for operating temperatures up to 194 degrees F. It is installed using the 3M E-9BM crimping tool. Electricians and low-voltage technicians use this connector for fast, reliable splices without stripping insulation.
This connector is suited for residential and commercial electrical work where double run or tap splicing is required. Common applications include branch circuit tapping, telephone and data wiring, control wiring, and similar low-voltage conductor connections. The IDC design allows the connector to pierce insulation and make contact with the conductor in a single crimping operation, reducing installation time. Each box contains 100 connectors, and a case contains 1,000 units, making it practical for high-volume service work or stocking at the job site.
Designed for use with the 3M E-9BM crimping tool. Suitable for double run or tap splicing of 18 to 16 AWG solid or stranded conductors and 14 AWG stranded conductors in low-voltage electrical wiring applications.
Installation is performed by a licensed electrician or qualified low-voltage technician using the recommended 3M E-9BM crimping tool. De-energize the circuit fully before making any splice connection. The IDC design does not require insulation stripping, but the conductor must be seated correctly in the connector cavity before crimping. Follow all applicable NEC requirements for conductor splicing and enclosure fill.
