The 3M 7100164956 is the Cubitron II 981F abrasive sanding belt, engineered for grinding, weld removal, finishing, and blending on soft metals including aluminum, bronze, and brass. Built on a tough Y-weight polyester cloth backing, this belt uses 3M Precision-Shaped Grain technology to deliver fast, consistent material removal. The resin bond system resists heat-related deterioration, and the water-resistant construction allows use with liquid coolants to manage grinding temperatures and prevent loading. Fabricators, metalworkers, and finishing technicians use this belt on wide-belt and contact-roll grinders in production and job-shop environments.
The 981F belt is sized at 48 inches long by 6 inches wide and is graded at 60 grit, making it well suited for aggressive stock removal and intermediate finishing passes on non-ferrous metal workpieces. The integrated dry lubricant helps keep the surface clear when working aluminum, brass, or bronze, reducing the frequency of belt changes during extended runs. This combination of features makes it a practical choice for weld seam blending, surface conditioning, and shape grinding on soft metal components.
Designed for use on wide-belt sanders and contact-roll grinders that accept 48-inch by 6-inch abrasive belts; suitable for grinding, finishing, and blending applications on soft metal substrates such as aluminum, brass, and bronze.
Install the belt with the arrow marked on the backing aligned to the direction of machine travel before tensioning. Power down and lock out the grinder before mounting or removing the belt. Confirm the machine's belt tracking and tension settings are within the equipment manufacturer's specifications before resuming operation. Inspect the belt for damage or delamination before each use.
