The 3M 7100164200 is a vinyl-insulated locking fork terminal designed for secure, reliable electrical connections in wiring applications where vibration or incomplete fastening is a concern. The terminal fits 12-10 AWG wire and accepts a size 8 stud. Its brazed-seam barrel provides a consistent crimp zone, while the spring-action tongue locks around the stud automatically, maintaining contact even before the mounting screw is fully tightened. Extra force is required to remove the terminal from the stud, making it well suited for environments where connections must stay in place during assembly or service. Licensed electricians and experienced wiring technicians are the primary installers of this terminal type.
This locking fork terminal is used in residential, commercial, and light industrial wiring applications where panel wiring, equipment grounding, or control circuit terminations require a positive mechanical lock at the stud connection. The locking design is particularly useful in applications subject to vibration or where terminals may be installed before final torque is applied to the mounting hardware. It is sold individually but typically ordered in quantity for panel builds, equipment harnesses, and termination projects.
Designed as an OEM-style locking fork terminal for use with size 8 studs and 12-10 AWG conductors in standard electrical termination applications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with applicable NEC requirements. De-energize the circuit and verify absence of voltage before terminating or removing any conductors. Use a calibrated ratcheting crimp tool appropriate for insulated fork terminals to ensure a proper crimp on the 12-10 AWG conductor. Do not solder the crimped connection, as this can create stress points at the barrel edge.
