The 3M 7100163073 is a coated abrasive cloth belt designed for high-pressure grinding and finishing applications on carbon steel, nickel alloys, tool steels, and titanium. Built on a heavyweight polyester backing, it carries 3M Precision Shaped Grain at 60 grit, a ceramic abrasive geometry engineered to fracture along consistent planes for faster, cooler cuts compared to conventional abrasive shapes. The result is longer belt life, reduced downtime for belt changes, and more finished parts per belt. This product is suited for fabrication shops, metalworking operations, and maintenance grinding where aggressive stock removal is required on hard or heat-sensitive alloys.
This belt is used in industrial and trade metalworking environments including weld grinding, deburring, and surface conditioning on carbon steel, tool steel, and high-nickel alloys such as titanium. It performs in both dry off-hand grinding setups and automated belt grinder applications that operate at high contact pressure. The 72-inch length and 2-inch width fit standard wide-belt and file-belt machines common in fabrication and tool-and-die shops. A built-in heat-resistant grinding aid supports work on titanium and other heat-sensitive metals where thermal damage to the workpiece is a concern.
Designed for use on standard belt grinding machines accepting 72-inch by 2-inch abrasive belts. Compatible with carbon steel, tool steel, nickel alloys, and titanium workpieces in high-pressure grinding applications.
Belt installation and tensioning should be performed by a qualified operator following the belt grinder manufacturer guidelines. Ensure the machine is fully de-energized and locked out before changing belts. Inspect the contact wheel and idler for wear or damage before mounting a new belt, and confirm belt tracking before resuming full-speed operation. Appropriate eye protection, face shield, and respiratory protection should be worn during all grinding operations.
