The 3M 7100160702 is a coated abrasive belt built on the Cubitron II 966F platform, designed for aggressive surface finishing on metals. It uses precision shaped ceramic grain bonded to a Y-weight polyester cloth backing. The ceramic grain fractures along controlled edges as it wears, maintaining a sharp cutting surface throughout the belt's life. At 50 grit, it removes material quickly while leaving a consistent finish. Resin bonding resists heat buildup, which reduces the risk of heat discoloration on sensitive alloys. The belt measures 138 inches long by 4 inches wide and weighs 1.51 pounds.
This belt is suited for grinding, blending, and finishing operations on stainless steel, titanium, and high-nickel alloys in fabrication, welding, and metalworking applications. The water-resistant polyester backing allows use with liquid coolants or lubricants, making it viable for both wet and dry grinding setups. It is commonly run on stationary or portable belt grinders in industrial shops, aerospace fabrication, and food-grade equipment manufacturing where discoloration-free finishes are required.
Designed for use on belt grinders and finishing machines accepting 138-inch by 4-inch abrasive belts. Suitable for surface finishing of stainless steel, titanium, and other high-nickel alloys in wet or dry conditions.
A licensed or experienced metalworking technician should install and tension the belt according to the equipment manufacturer's specifications. Ensure the grinder is powered off and locked out before changing belts. Verify belt tracking and tension before resuming operation. Always use appropriate PPE including eye protection and gloves when handling abrasive belts and operating grinding equipment.
