The 3M 7100160448 is a coated abrasive belt from the Cubitron II 966F series, built for aggressive stock removal and surface finishing on demanding metal substrates. It uses 3M precision shaped ceramic grain bonded to a Y-weight water-resistant polyester cloth backing. The shaped grain continuously fractures to expose sharp cutting edges, maintaining a fast cut rate throughout the belt's service life. At 132 inches long and 4 inches wide with a 36 grit designation, this belt is sized for wide-contact belt grinders and finishing machines used in fabrication, weld blending, and aerospace-grade surface prep. Licensed metalworkers, fabricators, and industrial maintenance techs are the primary installers and users.
This belt is suited for wet or dry applications on stainless steel, titanium, high-nickel alloys, and other hard-to-finish metals. The resin bond system resists heat buildup, which helps prevent discoloration and metallurgical damage to sensitive alloy surfaces. It is a strong fit for pipe fabrication shops, aerospace component finishing, and industrial grinding operations where surface integrity and consistent finish quality are required. The water-resistant polyester cloth backing allows use with liquid lubricants or coolants without delamination or backing failure.
Designed for use on wide-contact belt grinding and finishing machines that accept 132 inch by 4 inch abrasive belts. Suitable for ferrous and non-ferrous metal substrates including stainless steel, titanium, and high-nickel alloys in both wet and dry setups.
Installation should be performed by qualified metalworking or maintenance personnel familiar with abrasive belt equipment. Power down and lock out the machine before mounting or removing any abrasive belt. Verify belt tracking and tension according to the machine manufacturer's guidelines before resuming operation. Inspect the belt splice and backing for damage before each use and replace if delamination or tearing is present.
