The 3M 7100142218 is a standard abrasive quick change surface conditioning disc designed for prepping workpieces before final finishes and coatings. Built on an open-web RC material with aluminum oxide abrasive, the disc cleans and finishes in a single pass, eliminating the need for separate prep steps. At 3 inches in diameter and rated to 18000 RPM, it is sized for right-angle grinders and die grinders commonly used in metal fabrication, maintenance, and industrial finishing work. The load-resistant RC material resists clogging from paint and corrosion, making it suitable for sustained use without frequent disc changes.
This disc is used on flat surfaces in applications including blending, coating removal, light deburring, and surface conditioning. The open-web construction responds to surface irregularities and reduces the risk of gouging, which makes it particularly effective on composites and softer metals such as aluminum. It is well suited for general-purpose use under moderate pressure in both production and field service environments. The quick change attachment system allows fast disc swaps without additional hardware, reducing downtime during multi-step finishing operations.
Designed for use with quick change disc holders and right-angle grinders or die grinders that accept 3-inch quick change accessories. Suitable for use on flat surfaces, composites, and soft metals including aluminum.
Installation and disc changes should be performed by qualified personnel following standard shop safety procedures. Confirm the tool spindle speed does not exceed the 18000 RPM rating of the disc before mounting. Power down and disconnect the grinder from its power source before attaching or removing the disc. Wear appropriate PPE including eye protection and gloves during use and disc changes.
