The 3M 7100138835 is a small intumescent fire barrier pillow designed for through-penetration firestop applications in commercial and industrial construction. Measuring 2 inches x 4 inches x 9 inches, this self-contained pillow provides up to 3 hours of fire protection. During a fire event, the intumescent material expands and locks into place around penetrants, forming a seal that helps prevent the spread of fire, smoke, and toxic gases through wall and floor openings. Licensed firestop contractors and general contractors install these pillows in new construction and retrofit applications.
These pillows are suited for sealing through-penetrations involving cable trays, conduit, and blank openings in fire-rated wall and floor assemblies. A key advantage is re-enterability: pillows can be removed and replaced as cable or conduit configurations change over time. Small, medium, and large pillows can be combined within a single opening, provided the minimum 33 percent compression requirement within the opening is met. This makes them practical for data centers, commercial buildings, and industrial facilities where frequent cable changes are expected.
Designed for use in through-penetration firestop assemblies involving cable trays, conduit, and blank openings in fire-rated wall and floor constructions. Small pillows may be combined with medium or large 3M Fire Barrier Pillows within the same opening provided minimum compression requirements are satisfied.
Installation should be performed by a qualified firestop contractor or journeyman in accordance with the applicable tested system design and local building code requirements. Before beginning work, verify that the opening and penetrating items match the listed firestop system assembly. Pillows must be compressed a minimum of 33 percent within the opening to achieve rated performance — do not install loose or undersized for the opening. For re-entry, remove pillows carefully, make cable or conduit changes, then reinstall or replace pillows to restore the firestop rating.
