The 3M 7100138834 is a large intumescent fire barrier pillow rated for up to 3 hours of fire protection in through-penetration firestop applications. Measuring 3 inches x 6 inches x 9 inches, this self-contained pillow is designed for use in cable tray penetrations, conduit openings, and blank wall or floor openings. During a fire event, the intumescent fill material expands and locks itself into position, sealing around penetrants to block the spread of flame, smoke, and toxic gases. Licensed electricians, fire protection contractors, and mechanical trades commonly install these pillows as part of code-compliant passive fire protection systems.
This pillow is suited for residential and commercial construction where through-penetration firestop systems must meet fire-rated assembly requirements. It is particularly useful on projects where re-enterability is required — the pillow can be removed and replaced when cables or conduit need to be added or rerouted without disturbing the surrounding assembly. Small, medium, and large pillows can be combined within a single opening, provided minimum compression of 33 percent within the opening is achieved.
Designed for use in a wide variety of through-penetration firestop assemblies including cable tray, conduit, and blank openings in fire-rated wall and floor constructions. Any combination of small, medium, or large 3M Fire Barrier Pillows may be used within a single opening provided minimum compression requirements are met.
Installation is typically performed by fire protection contractors, licensed electricians, or mechanical trades as part of a rated firestop system. De-energize circuits and follow applicable NFPA and IBC passive fire protection requirements before beginning work. Pillows must be compressed a minimum of 33 percent within the penetration opening to achieve rated performance — do not install in openings where proper compression cannot be maintained. Confirm the specific firestop assembly listing and local authority having jurisdiction requirements before finalizing the installation.
