The 3M 7100138833 is a small self-locking intumescent firestop pillow rated for up to 3-hour fire protection in through-penetration assemblies. Measuring 2 inches x 4 inches x 9 inches, it is a self-contained product designed to seal floor and wall openings against the spread of fire, smoke, and toxic gases. During a fire event, the intumescent fill expands under heat, locking the pillow in place and compressing around penetrants to maintain the fire-resistance rating of the assembly. Installation and removal require no special adhesives or fasteners, making this product well suited for firestop contractors, electricians, and plumbers working in occupied or frequently modified buildings.
This pillow is used in through-penetration firestop applications in both residential and commercial construction. Typical installations include cable trays, conduit bundles, and blank openings in fire-rated floor and wall assemblies. Because the pillows are removable and replaceable, they are especially practical in telecom rooms, data centers, mechanical rooms, and any chase where new services are added over time. Any combination of small, medium, or large pillows can be used to firestop an opening provided a minimum compression of 33 percent within the opening is achieved.
Designed for use in through-penetration firestop assemblies in fire-rated floor and wall constructions, including applications with cable trays, conduit, and blank openings. Consult the applicable firestop system listing for specific assembly requirements before installation.
Installation is performed by licensed firestop contractors, electricians, or plumbers in accordance with the applicable tested system listing and local building code requirements. De-energize all circuits and shut off services within the penetration before disturbing an existing firestop assembly. Compress pillows to a minimum of 33 percent within the opening to achieve the rated performance; do not install pillows with insufficient compression. Verify that the installed assembly matches the conditions of the applicable UL or other third-party listed firestop system.
