The 3M 7100138818 is an intumescent cast-in firestop device designed to seal 6-inch non-metallic penetrations through fire-rated concrete floor assemblies. The device attaches directly to formwork before the concrete slab is poured. Once the slab cures and forms are removed, the opening created by the device serves as a pathway for mechanical, electrical, or plumbing penetrants. The intumescent material expands under heat to close the annular space around the pipe or conduit, providing up to 3-hour fire protection. Licensed electricians, plumbers, and mechanical contractors routinely install this device during new construction or concrete pour phases.
This cast-in device is suited for residential and commercial construction projects where fire-rated concrete floor assemblies require through-penetration protection. It is used when scheduling firestop measures during the concrete forming stage rather than as a post-installed collar. Typical applications include multi-story buildings, podium slabs, and any project governed by fire-resistance-rated floor assembly requirements. Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing penetrants can be routed through the formed opening after the slab is complete.
Designed for use with 6-inch non-metallic penetrations through fire-rated concrete floor assemblies. Suitable for use with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing penetrants in cast-in-place concrete slab applications.
Installation is performed by the trade responsible for the penetrating element prior to the concrete pour. The device must be secured to the form so it remains positioned correctly during the pour. Power-down or service shutoff is not required at the casting stage, but all penetrant routing through the cured slab should follow applicable fire code requirements, including IBC and NFPA 101. Do not modify or cut the intumescent collar, as any alteration may compromise the rated assembly performance.
