The 3M 7100110654, sold as 3M XYZ-Axis Electrically Conductive Tape 9712, is an isotropically conductive, pressure-sensitive double-sided tape designed for EMI shielding applications in electronic and electrical assemblies. The adhesive is loaded with conductive fibers, delivering simultaneous electrical conductivity across all three axes and reliable mechanical bonding. At 1/4 inch wide and 36 yards per roll, it is well suited for production-line use and field repair. Electricians, electronics technicians, and EMI compliance engineers install this tape to replace mechanical fasteners, reducing assembly time while maintaining a continuous, gap-free bond line critical to effective shielding performance.
Tape 9712 is used in both commercial and industrial electronic enclosures where EMI emission control is required. It bonds to foil laminate shields including aluminum/PVC and copper/PVC laminates, creating a customized shielding perimeter. It also attaches conductive fabric and foam-core EMI gaskets to electronic cabinetry. The tape can be applied in strips or die-cut to specific shapes and sizes, making it adaptable to complex enclosure geometries and high-mix production environments.
Designed for use with foil laminate EMI shields such as aluminum/PVC and copper/PVC laminates, and for attaching conductive fabric or foam-core EMI gaskets to electronic cabinetry and enclosures.
Installation is typically performed by electronics technicians or licensed electricians working on shielded enclosures. Clean and dry all bonding surfaces before application to ensure full adhesive contact. Apply firm, even pressure along the entire tape length to activate the pressure-sensitive adhesive and eliminate air pockets. When die-cutting to shape, use clean tooling to avoid contaminating the adhesive or deforming the conductive fiber matrix.
