The 3M 7100104912 is a Type 27 flap disc engineered for medium to high-pressure metal grinding applications. Built on a durable polyester backing, it incorporates 3M Precision-Shaped Grain that fractures as the disc wears, continuously exposing fresh cutting mineral. The result is a consistent, fast cut rate maintained throughout the life of the disc. At 4.5 inches in diameter and 40 grit, this disc is suited for aggressive stock removal while still delivering a surface finish acceptable for appearance-critical work. It is designed for use with right angle grinders and is a practical choice for fabrication and maintenance trades.
This flap disc is used in metal fabrication, structural steel work, welding shops, and industrial maintenance environments. Primary applications include beveling, weld removal, and edge deburring on a variety of ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The Type 27 flat profile is appropriate for surface grinding and blending passes. Because flap discs flex slightly during use, they carry a lower risk of gouging the workpiece compared to bonded abrasive wheels or fiber discs, making them a reliable option when surface finish matters.
Designed for use with standard right angle grinders accepting 4.5-inch Type 27 flap discs. Suitable for grinding and finishing on a variety of metals including structural steel, stainless steel, and non-ferrous materials.
Installation and disc changes must be performed by a qualified operator with the grinder fully powered off and unplugged or locked out per applicable OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Verify the grinder spindle speed rating meets or exceeds the maximum RPM rating of the disc before mounting. Inspect the disc for damage before each use and discard any disc that shows tears, separation, or deformation. Eye protection, face shield, and appropriate PPE are required during operation.
