The 3M 7100102027 is a straight cartridge roll abrasive designed for aggressive stock removal on metal, wood, and composite surfaces. Built on a cloth backing with aluminum oxide grain, this roll delivers very coarse cutting action at 36 grit, making it effective for deburring, weld blending, and surface conditioning in tight or contoured areas. The cartridge roll design mounts to a mandrel and is driven by a die grinder or rotary tool, giving technicians access to bores, slots, and inside radii that flat abrasives cannot reach. It measures 1 inch in diameter and is rated for operation up to 12,000 RPM.
This cartridge roll is suited for metal fabrication shops, maintenance and repair operations, and industrial finishing environments. Typical applications include cleaning up weld seams, smoothing burrs inside pipe ends or machined bores, and preparing surfaces for coating or inspection. The very coarse 36 grit cuts fast on ferrous and non-ferrous metals and is commonly used where significant material needs to be removed before stepping up to finer grits. It is installed and used by machinists, fabricators, maintenance technicians, and tool-and-die professionals.
Designed for use with standard mandrel-style holders compatible with 1 inch diameter straight cartridge rolls, as driven by die grinders and rotary tools rated to 12,000 RPM or higher.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified personnel familiar with abrasive tooling and rotary power tools. Confirm the mandrel and tool spindle speed rating meets or exceeds the 12,000 RPM maximum before mounting. Always power down and disconnect the tool from its air or electrical supply before changing cartridge rolls. Wear appropriate PPE including eye protection and gloves during mounting and operation.
