The 3M 7100099407 is a Trizact 217EA coated abrasive belt designed for intermediate finishing and fine polishing operations on metal surfaces. It uses 3M proprietary microreplication technology in which micron-graded aluminum oxide mineral is formed into uniform pyramidal structures and bonded to a JE-weight rayon cloth backing. As the pyramids wear during use, fresh sharp mineral is continuously exposed, producing a consistent cut rate and predictable fine finish throughout the life of the belt. The belt measures 132 inches in length and 4 inches in width and weighs approximately 0.44 pounds. A built-in grinding aid helps manage heat buildup to reduce the risk of surface warping and discoloration.
This belt is suited for finishing and polishing metal workpieces prior to plating or buffing. Its flexible JE-weight rayon backing conforms to contoured and irregular surfaces, making it effective in both flat and profile grinding applications. The consistent cut and long abrasive life make it a reliable choice for robotic and automated finishing lines where repeatability is critical. It performs best under light pressure, allowing the abrasive structure to break down gradually and maintain finish consistency. Manual and machine-mounted applications in fabrication, metalworking, and industrial finishing environments are typical use cases.
Designed for use on belt grinders and finishing machines that accept a 132-inch by 4-inch abrasive belt. Intended for metal finishing operations including intermediate grinding, fine polishing, and pre-plate or pre-buff surface preparation.
Installation should be performed by qualified personnel familiar with abrasive belt machinery. Power down and lock out the machine before changing belts, following OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Verify belt tracking and tension per the machine manufacturer specifications before resuming operation. Inspect the belt for tears or edge damage before mounting and do not exceed the machine's rated operating speed.
