The 3M 7100099274 is a 7-inch Quick Change Type 782C coated fibre disc engineered for high-speed material removal on carbon steel. Built around 3M Precision Shaped Grain abrasive technology, it delivers faster cut rates and longer service life than conventional fibre discs. Rated to 8600 RPM, this disc operates on standard right-angle grinders equipped with compatible quick-change disc pads and hubs. At 80 grit, it strikes a practical balance between aggressive stock removal and surface control, making it well-suited for weld removal, beveling, edge chamfering, and blending operations in fabrication and structural steel work.
This disc is intended for professional metalworking applications where consistent cut performance and disc longevity are critical. Typical use cases include weld grinding and blending on carbon steel plate and structural members, edge chamfering prior to fit-up, and surface conditioning in fabrication shops and field welding environments. The stiff fibre backing and strong resin bond maintain disc integrity under the high lateral forces common in heavy grinding passes. Disc pads, face plates, and hubs required for quick-change mounting are sold separately.
Compatible with 3M disc pad face plates and hubs designed for Quick Change Type discs, sold separately. Designed for use on carbon steel in weld removal, blending, and finish refinement applications.
Installation and operation should be performed by qualified personnel familiar with abrasive disc safety requirements per ANSI B7.1 and grinder manufacturer guidelines. Verify that the grinder free-speed RPM does not exceed the 8600 RPM disc rating before mounting. Power down and disconnect the grinder from the power source before changing discs. Confirm the quick-change hub and face plate are properly seated and locked before resuming operation, and always use appropriate eye, face, and hand protection during grinding.
