The 3M 7100082004 is a gray, double-sided, closed-cell acrylic foam tape sold in a 1-inch-wide by 72-yard roll at 25 mil thickness. The conformable foam core is pressure-sensitive on both faces and ships with a paper liner to protect the adhesive until application. At 25 mil, the tape provides measurable cushioning and vibration damping in addition to a structural bond. The acrylic adhesive is plasticizer resistant, making it suitable for environments where contact with plasticized materials would degrade a standard acrylic or rubber-based adhesive. The roll weighs 8 pounds. This product carries a UL 746C listing for use with polymeric materials.
This tape is used to bond high- and medium-surface-energy substrates including metals, glass, and many engineering plastics. Typical applications include panel attachment, sign assembly, architectural glazing, appliance manufacturing, and general fabrication where mechanical fasteners are impractical or undesirable. The conformable foam construction allows the tape to bridge minor surface irregularities and maintain contact across curved or uneven profiles. It is used by fabricators, glaziers, HVAC sheet metal shops, and industrial assembly technicians across both residential and commercial projects.
Designed for bonding high- and medium-surface-energy substrates such as metals, glass, and rigid engineering plastics. Performance on low-surface-energy substrates such as polyethylene or polypropylene may require surface preparation or priming.
Surface preparation is critical for maximum bond strength — clean substrates thoroughly to remove oil, dust, and moisture before application. Apply firm pressure across the full bonded area to ensure full adhesive contact. Allow adequate dwell time before loading the bond, as acrylic foam tape gains strength over the first 24 to 72 hours after application. No special tools are required, but a roller applicator is recommended for consistent pressure on large surfaces.
