The 3M 7100078550 is the Cubitron II 984F coated abrasive belt, built for demanding metal grinding and finishing operations. It uses 3M Precision-Shaped Grain on a YF-weight polyester cloth backing, a combination engineered for fast stock removal at medium to high contact pressures. The belt measures 42 inches in length and 1 inch in width, weighs 0.08 pounds, and carries a 60-grit designation. A built-in grinding aid helps the belt run cooler, which directly reduces the risk of heat-induced discoloration, oxidation, and stress cracking on sensitive workpieces. This belt is suited for fabrication shops, aerospace grinding cells, and robotic belt-finishing systems where consistent cut rate and long belt life are required.
The 984F belt targets medium-to-high-pressure grinding on stainless steel, carbon steel, cobalt chrome, nickel alloys, and other exotic alloys. It performs well in both manual and robotic or pressure-assisted grinding applications where frequent belt changes create downtime and increase per-part cost. The 60-grit grade makes it appropriate for aggressive stock removal and surface conditioning where a finer finish is not the primary objective. Metal fabricators, aerospace component finishers, and industrial grinding operators are the primary users of this belt format.
Designed for use on belt grinders and robotic grinding systems accepting a 1-inch by 42-inch abrasive belt. Suitable for grinding stainless steel, carbon steel, cobalt chrome, nickel alloys, and other exotic alloys in medium-to-high-pressure contact configurations.
Belt installation and replacement should be performed by qualified personnel following the grinder manufacturer's guidelines and all applicable machine safety lockout/tagout procedures. Ensure the machine is fully de-energized and motion has stopped before changing the belt. Verify belt tracking and tension according to the equipment manufacturer's specifications before resuming operation. Appropriate PPE including eye protection, gloves, and hearing protection is required during grinding operations.
