The 3M 7100066679 is a 6-inch hook-and-loop sanding disc from the Cubitron II 732U series, designed for fine material removal, deburring, and surface preparation before final finishing. The disc uses a ceramic abrasive applied in an open-coat pattern across a C-weight paper backing. Ceramic abrasive self-sharpens during use, which maintains a consistent cut rate and keeps surface temperatures lower than conventional abrasives — an important advantage when working heat-sensitive metals or finishes. At 180 grit, this disc falls in the fine range, suited for smoothing and light stock removal.
This disc is used in automotive, fabrication, marine, and composite repair applications. The multi-hole pattern allows dust extraction without requiring alignment to a specific hole layout, which speeds disc changes and reduces airborne particulate. The open-coat construction covers approximately 50 percent of the surface with abrasive, which limits swarf loading and helps maintain consistent performance across longer use cycles. Suitable for sanding paint, plastic, composites, gelcoat, fiberglass, and carbon steel. C-weight paper backing is approximately 70 pounds, offering more rigidity and durability than lighter A- or B-weight backings while remaining foldable for hand-sanding applications.
Designed for use on hook-and-loop random orbital and orbital sanders accepting 6-inch multi-hole discs. Compatible surfaces include paint, plastic, composites, gelcoat, fiberglass, and carbon steel.
Disc attachment and removal requires no tools — align the hook-and-loop face to the sander pad and press firmly before operation. Ensure the sander is powered off and unplugged before changing discs. Inspect the backing pad for wear or contamination before attaching a new disc, as a damaged pad can cause uneven pressure and premature disc failure. Use appropriate respiratory protection and dust extraction when sanding composites, fiberglass, or coated metals.
