The 3M 7100064257 is a multiple-wall, semi-rigid heat shrink tubing designed for electrical insulation, strain relief, and environmental sealing of wire splices, terminals, and connector assemblies. Built from co-extruded, selectively cross-linked polyolefin, it features a 2.5:1 shrink ratio and an integral meltable inner wall that flows into voids and around irregular surfaces as heat is applied. Each piece measures 6 inches in length and is sold in packs of 10 pieces. Licensed electricians, harness builders, and MRO technicians are the primary installers.
This tubing is suited for applications requiring a durable outer sleeve combined with a bonding inner layer — typical in aerospace wire bundles, industrial control panels, and automotive or marine electrical assemblies. The meltable inner wall creates an adhesive-like seal that improves pull-off resistance and blocks moisture ingress, making it a practical choice where environmental protection is required alongside mechanical strain relief.
Designed as an OEM-style heat shrink sleeve for electrical wire splices, terminals, and connector backshells requiring a bonded, environmentally sealed installation.
Installation is performed by qualified electricians or wire harness technicians following applicable NEC guidelines for insulation and termination. Power down and de-energize all circuits before applying tubing to any live conductor assembly. Apply heat evenly using a calibrated heat gun, working from the center of the sleeve outward to prevent air pockets from forming under the tubing. Do not use an open flame as the heat source, as uncontrolled temperatures can damage the tubing or adjacent components.
