The 3M 7100055056 is a Type 27 ceramic flap disc designed for aggressive material removal on metal, fabricated components, and weld seams. Built around a cloth-backed, coated abrasive construction, this disc delivers consistent cut rates through the life of the wheel. At 60 grit medium grade, it bridges the gap between heavy stock removal and surface blending. The 7-inch diameter and 5/8-11 arbor hole fit standard right-angle grinders used in metal fabrication, structural steel work, and industrial maintenance. A maximum rated speed of 13,300 RPM keeps it compatible with most full-size angle grinders in that class. Installers and fabricators working with carbon steel, stainless, and hard alloys will find the ceramic grain well-suited for high-heat applications where aluminum oxide would break down faster.
This disc is suited for flat and contoured grinding on mild steel, stainless steel, and similar ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The Type 27 flat profile allows flush grinding on flat surfaces and inside corners. Typical use cases include weld blending, surface prep before coating, deburring, and edge grinding in both shop and field environments. The brown cloth backing provides flexibility without sacrificing tear resistance under side-load conditions common in fabrication work.
Designed for use with right-angle grinders equipped with a 5/8-11 threaded spindle and rated for 7-inch diameter accessories at or below 13,300 RPM.
Mounting and disc changes must be performed with the grinder unplugged or battery removed. Verify the grinder spindle speed does not exceed the 13,300 RPM disc rating before use. Inspect the disc for cracks or damage before each use and discard any disc that shows delamination or backing separation. Eye protection, face shield, and appropriate PPE are required during operation per ANSI B11 and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.215 guidelines.
