The 3M 7100050304 is a coated abrasive quick-change disc designed for aggressive material removal on metal, weld seams, and surface preparation applications. Part of the 3M 987C Series, it features a ceramic abrasive grain bonded with a resinoid bond onto a fiber backing. The disc measures 3 inches in diameter, carries a 36 grit rating (very coarse), and is rated to a maximum of 20,000 RPM. The TR Quick-Change attachment style allows fast, tool-free disc swaps on compatible right-angle grinders and die grinders, reducing downtime during high-volume grinding tasks.
This disc is suited for metal fabrication, maintenance, and repair work where rapid stock removal is required. Typical applications include grinding welds, deburring, and shaping ferrous metals. The orange fiber-backed disc is commonly used by metalworkers, pipefitters, and HVAC sheet metal technicians who need a reliable coarse disc for prep work before finishing passes. Its compact 3-inch diameter makes it well suited for use in tight spaces and contoured surfaces.
Designed for use with TR Quick-Change right-angle grinders and die grinders that accept 3-inch TR-style quick-change discs.
Installation and disc changes should be performed by a qualified operator with the grinder powered off and disconnected from its power source. Verify that the grinder spindle speed does not exceed the 20,000 RPM maximum rating of this disc before operation. Always inspect the disc for damage before mounting, and ensure the TR attachment is fully seated and locked before resuming work. Eye protection, gloves, and appropriate PPE are required during grinding operations per applicable safety standards.
