The 3M 7100047923 is a clear, double-sided pressure-sensitive acrylic mounting tape sold under the VHB Heavy Duty Tape 4910 line. The roll measures 0.75 inches wide by 15 yards long and carries a 40 mil thickness, making it one of the heavier-gauge options in the VHB family. A PE film liner protects the adhesive until installation. The tape bonds high surface energy substrates and provides measurable cushioning, vibration damping, and impact resistance alongside its primary fastening function. It holds UL listing 746C, a flame and material flammability certification relevant to electrical and electronic assemblies. Installers in HVAC, electrical, and general trade applications use it wherever mechanical fasteners are impractical or cosmetically unacceptable.
This tape is suited for bonding metal panels, painted surfaces, glass, and high surface energy plastics in both residential and light commercial settings. Common applications include attaching trim panels, mounting junction box covers, securing wire management components, affixing nameplates, and bonding gaskets or seals. Its clarity makes it appropriate where tape visibility through a substrate is a concern. The 40 mil construction handles slight surface irregularities and gaps better than thinner tape grades, which is useful on fabricated enclosures or painted sheet metal with minor surface variation.
Designed for bonding high surface energy substrates including metals, glass, and coated or painted surfaces in HVAC, electrical, and general trade assembly applications.
Surface preparation is critical — clean and dry the substrate thoroughly before applying; oils, dust, or moisture will reduce bond strength. Apply firm, even pressure across the full tape surface to ensure full adhesive contact. VHB tapes develop full bond strength over 72 hours after application, so avoid loading the joint immediately after installation. Follow applicable NEC or manufacturer guidelines when using tape in or near electrical enclosures.
