The 3M 7100046328 is a coated abrasive disc designed for aggressive stock removal on a wide range of substrates. It uses Precision Shaped Ceramic Grain, a triangular mineral geometry engineered to slice through material rather than gouge or plow like conventional abrasive grains. This cutting action translates to faster stock removal and extended disc life compared to standard abrasives. The disc features a film backing that resists tearing and maintains edge integrity under sustained use. A hook and loop attachment system allows fast disc swaps without tools. At 6 inches in diameter and 120 grit, it fits standard random orbital and disc sanders used in metal fabrication, surface preparation, and finishing work.
This disc is suited for professional tradespeople and shop technicians performing stock removal, weld blending, and surface prep on metal, composites, and similar hard substrates. The 120 grit rating positions it for intermediate stock removal where a balance of cut rate and surface finish is needed. The hook and loop backing is compatible with 6-inch hook and loop backup pads commonly found on pneumatic and electric random orbital sanders. Discs are sold in quantity, making this a practical choice for production environments or contractors with high disc turnover.
Designed for use with 6-inch hook and loop backup pads on standard random orbital and disc sanders used in metal fabrication and surface preparation applications.
Mount only to a clean, dry 6-inch hook and loop backup pad rated for the sander speed in use. Inspect the backup pad for worn hook material before attaching a new disc, as a degraded pad reduces holding force and can cause disc separation during operation. Always operate within the maximum RPM rating of the sander and wear appropriate eye and respiratory protection when grinding or sanding. Verify disc is fully seated and engaged with the backup pad before applying the tool to the workpiece.
