The 3M 7100045900 is a coated abrasive disc roll featuring Precision Shaped Ceramic Grain technology in a 6-inch diameter, 120-grit configuration with a film backing. The triangular ceramic mineral is engineered to slice through material rather than plowing or gouging the surface the way conventional abrasive grains do. This geometry allows the disc to cut up to 2 times faster and last up to 6 times longer than standard abrasive discs. The film backing provides greater tear resistance and edge retention compared to paper-backed alternatives. This product is sold as a roll and is intended for use by metal fabricators, body shop technicians, and industrial finishing professionals.
These discs are designed primarily for aggressive stock removal across a wide variety of substrates including metal, composites, and other hard materials. The Stikita attachment system allows for quick disc changes without tools, reducing downtime during high-volume grinding or finishing operations. Typical applications include weld blending, surface prep, and material shaping on flat or low-contour surfaces. The 120-grit rating positions this disc in the medium range, suitable for refining surfaces after coarser grinding steps or for direct stock removal on softer substrates.
Designed for use with 6-inch random orbital and disc sanders equipped with a Stikita-style hook-and-loop or pressure-sensitive attachment interface. Suitable for stock removal applications on metal, composites, and similar hard substrates.
Installation is performed by grinding and finishing professionals; no licensed trade certification is typically required. Ensure the backing pad on the sander is clean and free of debris before attaching the disc to maintain full contact and uniform cut. Inspect the disc before each use and remove from service at the first sign of tearing, delamination, or uneven wear. Always use appropriate personal protective equipment including eye protection and hearing protection when operating grinding equipment.
