The 3M 7100044586 is a coated abrasive hook-and-loop disc designed for aggressive stock removal on metal, wood, and composite substrates. Built on the Cubitron II platform, it uses 3M Precision Shaped Grain — a triangular ceramic mineral engineered to slice through material rather than plow across it. The result is a disc rated to cut up to two times faster and last up to four times longer than conventional aluminum oxide or ceramic abrasives. At 5 inches in diameter and 80 grit, it targets medium-to-coarse stock removal and is rated to 12000 RPM. The hook-and-loop backing allows rapid disc changes without tools.
This disc is suited to metal fabrication, weld blending, surface preparation, and general stock removal tasks in both shop and field environments. It is used by welders, metal fabricators, and finishing technicians working on ferrous and non-ferrous metals as well as painted or coated surfaces. The 80 grit designation makes it appropriate as an initial cut disc before moving to finer finishing stages. Typical applications include deburring, weld seam leveling, and paint or rust removal on structural steel, sheet metal, and aluminum.
Designed for use with 5 inch hook-and-loop random orbital sanders and disc grinders that accept hook-and-loop backup pads and operate at or below 12000 RPM.
Ensure the tool is powered off and unplugged before mounting or removing the disc. Verify the backup pad is clean and that all hooks are fully engaged before operating. Do not exceed the 12000 RPM maximum speed rating. Inspect the disc for tears or delamination before each use and discard any damaged disc immediately.
