The 3M 7100044450 is a coated abrasive hook-and-loop disc engineered for high-speed stock removal on metal, wood, and composite substrates. Built around 3M Precision Shaped Ceramic Grain, the triangular mineral geometry slices through material rather than plowing across it, delivering cut rates up to two times faster than conventional abrasive discs. The 5-inch diameter disc runs at a maximum of 12000 RPM and is rated at 80 grit, placing it squarely in the aggressive stock-removal range. Fabricators, metalworkers, and industrial finishing technicians reach for this disc when cycle time and consumable longevity both matter.
This disc is suited for surface preparation, weld blending, deburring, and general stock removal in fabrication shops, production lines, and maintenance environments. The hook-and-loop backing mounts directly to compatible 5-inch Hookit backup pads, making disc swaps fast during production runs. At 80 grit, it works efficiently on mild steel, stainless, aluminum, and wood before transitioning to finer finishing steps. Applications are primarily aggressive material removal rather than final finishing.
Designed for use with 5-inch hook-and-loop backup pads compatible with right-angle grinders and random-orbit sanders rated up to 12000 RPM.
Installation is performed by qualified grinding equipment operators or maintenance technicians. Confirm the grinder or sander is rated for a maximum speed at or above 12000 RPM before mounting the disc. Disconnect power or remove the battery from the tool before changing discs. Inspect the backup pad for wear or contamination that could prevent proper hook-and-loop engagement, and never operate a disc that shows signs of tearing, delamination, or off-center mounting.
