The 3M 7100043891 is a dead soft aluminum foil tape engineered for duct sealing, insulation facing repairs, and general HVAC fabrication work. The 1.8 mil aluminum foil carrier is coated with a cold weather acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive that bonds in low-temperature conditions where standard adhesives fail. The tape measures 3.89 inches wide and 50 yards long per roll, offering broad coverage for seam sealing and patching applications. It is hand tearable, which speeds up installation without the need for a dispenser or cutting tool. Licensed HVAC technicians, sheet metal workers, and mechanical insulation contractors are the primary installers of this product.
This tape is suited for residential and commercial HVAC ductwork, mechanical insulation jacketing, and vapor barrier repairs. Its cold weather adhesive makes it particularly useful for work performed in unconditioned spaces such as attics, crawlspaces, and equipment rooms during cooler months. The UL723 and ULC S102 flame and smoke classifications make it appropriate for use in applications where fire-rated materials are specified by code or project requirements.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and general-use foil tape for residential and commercial HVAC ductwork sealing, mechanical insulation jacketing repairs, and vapor barrier applications.
Installation is typically performed by licensed HVAC technicians or mechanical insulation contractors. Before applying, ensure the substrate surface is clean, dry, and free of dust or oils to achieve full adhesive contact. When working on active duct systems, shut down the air handler or furnace before accessing ductwork to avoid pressurized air interference during tape application. Follow applicable mechanical codes including SMACNA duct sealing standards for fire-rated assembly requirements.
