The 3M 7100043851 is a tri-directionally reinforced foil tape designed for sealing and facing applications in HVAC insulation systems. It features a white polypropylene film and scrim laminated to a metalized PET facing, backed with a cold weather acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive. The tape meets ASTM C1136 Type II and Type IV requirements and carries an extremely low permeance rating of 0.02 perms, making it well-suited for vapor-retarding applications. It is supplied on a roll measuring 2.83 inches wide by 50 yards long. Licensed HVAC technicians and insulation installers work with this tape in both new construction and retrofit environments.
This tape is used in residential and light commercial HVAC applications where a durable, vapor-retarding facing seal is required. Typical uses include sealing joints and seams on duct wrap insulation, rigid duct board, and flexible duct insulation blankets. The cold weather acrylic adhesive maintains bond strength in low-temperature conditions, which is useful during winter installations or in unconditioned spaces such as crawlspaces, attics, and mechanical rooms. HVAC technicians and insulation contractors are the primary installers.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and general-purpose facing tape for use with duct wrap insulation, duct board, and flexible insulation blanket systems in residential and commercial HVAC applications.
Installation is performed by licensed HVAC technicians or qualified insulation contractors. Surfaces should be clean, dry, and free of dust or oil before application to ensure full adhesive contact. Apply firm hand pressure across the full width of the tape after positioning to activate the pressure-sensitive adhesive. Work in compliance with applicable mechanical codes and insulation manufacturer instructions for seam-sealing requirements.
