The 3M 7100039317 is a dead-soft aluminum foil tape with a pressure-sensitive acrylic adhesive, designed for heat shielding, seaming, sealing, and light-reflective applications. The dead-soft foil backing conforms readily to curved and irregular surfaces, making it well suited for ductwork, insulation, and HVAC jacketing work. The acrylic adhesive delivers long-term bond strength while still removing cleanly after masking use. The tape carries a UL 723 Class L rating for low flammability. HVAC technicians, sheet metal workers, and insulation contractors are the primary installers of this product.
This tape is used across residential and commercial applications including HVAC duct seaming and sealing, insulation facing repair, heat shielding around temperature-sensitive components, and light-enhancement tasks in fixture installations. The aluminum construction withstands exposure to flame, weathering, moisture, and UV radiation, making it appropriate for both indoor mechanical rooms and exposed exterior installations. It is sold by the roll and is available in a minimum order quantity of 32 rolls.
Suitable for use on HVAC ductwork, rigid and flexible insulation facing, sheet metal assemblies, and other surfaces requiring a conformable, heat-resistant foil seal or shield.
This tape is typically applied by HVAC technicians, sheet metal mechanics, or insulation installers. Surfaces should be clean, dry, and free of dust or grease before application to ensure full adhesive contact. When used on duct systems, follow local mechanical codes and SMACNA guidelines for approved sealing methods. Apply firm pressure across the full tape width to achieve rated bond strength.
