The 3M 7100038989 is a dead-soft aluminum foil tape with a pressure-sensitive acrylic adhesive, supplied in a 2-inch wide by 60-yard roll. The aluminum foil backing is thermally conductive and conformable, making it suitable for heat shielding, heat reflection, seaming, and sealing across HVAC, refrigeration, and sheet metal applications. The acrylic adhesive bonds to a wide range of substrates, delivers long-term durability, and removes cleanly after temporary masking use. Licensed HVAC technicians, sheet metal workers, and insulation contractors are the primary installers of this tape.
This tape is used in residential and commercial HVAC systems for sealing duct joints, seaming foil-faced insulation, and protecting temperature-sensitive materials from radiant heat. Its dead-soft foil backing conforms to curved and uneven surfaces, which makes it well suited for wrapping duct fittings and irregular duct sections. The tape also sees use in light enhancement, moisture sealing, and weatherproofing applications where UV resistance and flame retardancy are required. It is classified by UL to UL 723 with a Class L low flammability rating.
Designed for use on sheet metal ductwork, foil-faced insulation, and metal substrates in HVAC, refrigeration, and general industrial seaming and sealing applications.
Installation is typically performed by licensed HVAC technicians or sheet metal workers following applicable mechanical codes. Ensure the substrate surface is clean, dry, and free of dust or grease before applying tape for maximum adhesion. Power down or de-energize any equipment being serviced before applying tape near heat sources or electrical enclosures. Apply firm, even pressure along the full length of the tape to achieve proper bond.
