The 3M 7100030183 is a UHMW (ultra-high-molecular-weight) polyethylene film tape designed to reduce noise, vibration, and wear in mechanical and industrial assemblies. It features a translucent 10.0 mil UHMW polyethylene backing bonded to a rubber adhesive and supplied on a paper liner. At 11.7 mil total thickness, this is the thickest version in the 3M 5423 series, providing greater abrasion resistance than thinner variants such as Tape 5421. The low coefficient of friction on the UHMW surface allows components to slide against one another with minimal resistance, making it well suited for wear pads, guide rails, chutes, and sliding surfaces where contact noise or surface wear is a recurring service issue.
Tape 5423 is applied in both light industrial and trade settings where a durable, low-friction surface treatment is needed without machined inserts or replacement parts. Common applications include conveyor guides, drawer slides, door tracks, HVAC cabinet components, and any metal-to-metal or metal-to-plastic contact point prone to squeaking or abrasion. Each roll measures 6 inches wide by 18 yards long, making it practical for covering larger surface areas in a single run. It is sold in rolls and minimum order quantities apply.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or upgrade for applications currently using 3M Tape 5421, and suitable for any surface requiring a low-friction, abrasion-resistant UHMW film treatment in mechanical, HVAC, or industrial service environments.
Surface preparation is critical — clean and degrease the substrate thoroughly before applying the tape to ensure full adhesive contact. Cut the tape to length before removing the paper liner, and apply firm hand pressure across the entire bonded surface to seat the adhesive. No special tools are required, but a rubber roller improves bond consistency on large flat areas. Ensure the surface is at or above recommended ambient temperature during application, as cold surfaces can reduce initial adhesion.
