The 3M 7100028874 is a weather resistant film tape designed for outdoor sealing applications where long-term exposure to moisture, UV, and temperature cycling is a concern. At 3.4 mil total thickness, the tape combines a Tedlar PVF film backing with an acrylic adhesive system. The PVF backing provides durability against weathering and chemical exposure, while the acrylic adhesive delivers strong, lasting bonds to a variety of substrates. It is sized 1 inch wide by 72 yards per roll and is suited for use by building envelope contractors, glaziers, and experienced maintenance professionals.
This tape is used primarily for sealing seams on outdoor building panels, window and door perimeters, and similar exterior assemblies subject to severe weather exposure. It is also used as a hinge seal on shower doors where moisture resistance is required over time. Applications span both commercial and residential construction and renovation work, wherever a flexible, UV-stable film tape is needed to maintain a weathertight seal at joints and transitions.
Designed for use on outdoor building panel seams, window and door perimeter joints, and hinge seals on shower doors where severe exposure and moisture resistance are required.
Surface preparation is critical before application — substrates should be clean, dry, and free of dust, oil, and loose material. Apply firm, even pressure across the full width of the tape using a roller or squeegee to ensure full adhesive contact. In cold-weather installations, allow the tape and substrate to reach a workable temperature before application, as acrylic adhesives require adequate temperature for proper bond development. Work area should comply with applicable building codes for exterior envelope sealing.
