The 3M 7100028249 is a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) diamond lapping film disc engineered for precision surface finishing and micro-abrasive material removal. Designated as the 666XW series, it features a higher diamond concentration and a stronger resin bond compared to the standard 662XW diamond lapping film, delivering increased cut rate and added durability through extended use cycles. Rated at 6.0 micron, this disc is suited for controlled, fine-material removal on hard substrates including ceramics, carbide, glass, and optical components. The PSA backing allows fast, repeatable mounting to compatible backup pads or flat lapping plates without adhesive mess.
This disc is used in precision lapping, polishing, and finishing applications across industries including fiber optic connector end-face preparation, aerospace component finishing, and tool and die work. The 5-inch diameter makes it compatible with standard benchtop lapping machines and rotary tools that accept PSA-style discs. Technicians and machinists working on tight-tolerance surface finishes rely on consistent diamond dispersion in this film to maintain flatness and achieve repeatable results across multiple passes.
Designed for use with lapping plates, rotary lapping machines, and backup pads that accept 5-inch PSA-mount abrasive discs. Suitable for lapping hard substrates including ceramics, carbide, optical glass, and ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
Clean and dry the backup pad or lapping plate surface before applying the PSA disc to ensure full adhesive contact and prevent slippage during operation. Peel the liner and press the disc firmly and evenly onto the mounting surface, starting from the center outward to eliminate air pockets. Follow equipment manufacturer guidelines for spindle speed and applied pressure when lapping precision components. Dispose of used discs per facility abrasive waste procedures.
