The 3M 7100027274 is a Hookit back-up disc pad designed to securely hold Hookit sanding discs, finishing discs, or Finesse-it buffing pads on hand-held power tools including rotary, orbital, and random orbital sanders. The pad measures 5 inches in diameter with a 3/4 inch thickness and mounts via a 5/16-24 external thread. Its 45-degree tapered edge adds flexibility and allows operators to feather-edge or blend sanded surfaces with greater control. The yellow hook-and-loop face uses J-shaped hooks that engage the brushed nylon loop backings of Hookit discs, enabling fast disc attachment, removal, and reattachment throughout the full abrasive life of the disc.
This disc pad is suited for automotive body work, woodworking, and surface finishing applications where a hand-held sander is used. It is particularly effective in work environments where airborne dust, dirt, or debris would contaminate adhesive-backed disc systems. The Hookit system replaces pressure-sensitive adhesive mounting with a reusable hook-and-loop interface, reducing disc waste and downtime during disc changes. It is used by auto body technicians, finish carpenters, and surface prep professionals working in both shop and field settings.
Designed for use with 3M Hookit sanding and finishing discs and 3M Finesse-it buffing pads featuring brushed nylon loop backings. Fits hand-held rotary, orbital, and random orbital sanders with a 5/16-24 external thread spindle.
Thread the disc pad onto the sander spindle by hand until snug, then confirm the pad is seated flat before attaching a disc. Power down and disconnect the sander from any power source before changing the disc pad or mounted disc. Inspect the hook face periodically for loading or damage that may reduce disc retention. Follow the tool manufacturer guidelines for maximum RPM ratings applicable to the mounted pad size.
